01732 759725 50 AND FINALLY Mark Gemmell, Head of Sales & Operations, Trade Copiers 60 seconds with… What’s currently having the greatest impact on your business? Like many others, our business used COVID disruption as an opportunity to revaluate all aspects of our operation. We focused heavily on implementing robust enquiry management processes and creating a culture of achievement. As the market recovered, we benefited hugely from our renewed approach, and this is having a profound impact on our business. Where do you see the next big opportunity? We are experiencing increased demand from developing countries. Our next big opportunity is exporting to more of them. What would make your day job easier? Our business had to expand across two sites to accommodate growth. Although they are less than a mile apart, having all our resources in one location would make things much easier. What’s the best bit of business advice you’ve been given? ‘The hardest part of this job is keeping your head on’. I didn’t understand it at the time, but now I think it alludes to the importance of choosing how we respond to situations and never letting emotion cloud our judgment. If you had had a crystal ball, would you have done anything differently? Ordered a few more HGVs before availability became an issue! Describe your most embarrassing moment. I unfortunately have plenty to choose from! A particularly embarrassing work moment was trying to ‘show off’ my research abilities in a job interview. I mentioned to the interviewing panel that I was surprised to learn the owners also owned the Caravan Club. It was the legendary Cavern Club in Liverpool they owned. www.tradecopiers.co.uk What was your first job? Hotel porter. I was offered the job after a work experience placement arranged through school. I bought a BMX with my first month’s wages. What would be your dream job? F1 driver! Fine dining and good wine, or curry and a pint? Tough choice. Curry and a pint. How do you like to spend your spare time? Ideally on a motorcycle. Favourite holiday destination? Zanzibar. Money’s not an issue, what’s your perfect car… and where would you like to drive it? 458 Speciale in the alps, on a sunny day. Perfect! Mark Gemmell
