In the US, Ricoh has launched a new line of wireless laser printers that leverage the company’s Embedded Software Architecture to enable mobile workers to send print jobs to them remotely from any WiFi-enabled location or device.
By embedding PrintSpots mobile printing software from PrinterOn within the HotSpot printers themselves, Ricoh has removed the need for external servers and appliances, making it easier than ever for organisations to meet the printing needs of both office-based and mobile staff.
Each HotSpot printer has its own Web page through which mobile users can upload a file or Web page URL to be printed. Alternatively, emails can be forwarded from laptops or PDAs to the printer’s own email address.
With either method, the system automatically sends a secure code that can be entered on the printer’s keypad to release the documents when the user returns to the office.
