Lexmark survey SME’s

SMEs must make better use of investment in MFPs

Lexmark is urging small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to make better use of their investment in multifunction devices (MFPs), following a survey showing that just half of those who have MFPs use them to fax and scan.

A Lexmark-sponsored survey of 1,400 businesses with fewer than 250 employees found that just over half (55%) of the 62% of SMEs that had MFPs used the scanning function to convert paper-based documents into digital formats for electronic filing or emailing.

Businesses at the top end of the size range (i.e. those with 151-250 employees) are both more likely to have a laser MFP (89% compared to 62% for all SMBs) and more likely to use the devices’ capabilities as part of a printing strategy.

For example, one third (34%) of larger businesses use the MFPs’ access control functions to restrict access to colour printing, compared to one fifth of SMBs with 51-150 employees and one in 10 (12%) of those with 10-50 workers.
