HPs “Secure print advantage” safeguards against attacks

Published January 28, 2008 at 3:11 pm · Filed under Printer / Copier

In order to secure printers from intrusions, data theft, denial-of-service attacks, viruses and worms, HP has introduced a hardware-based solution that maintains the security of confidential print jobs throughout the entire workflow, from the desktop to the printed page.

The HP Secure Print Advantage (SPA) helps you define and enforce your organization’s secure print policies

HP Secure Print Advantage safeguards against malicious attacks by integrating stringent security standards into the print environment, including both FIPS 140-2 Level 4 and Common Criteria EAL 4+ security. It acts as an overlay to HP or heterogeneous print infrastructures, delivering full encryption and policy controls with audit logging throughout the entire print lifecycle.

When the Secure Print Advantage document server receives a print job from an encrypting client module, it inspects it for malware and depending on the results of the inspection, either terminates the document or re-encrypts it and stores it on the server ready for printing.

To print the document, the recipient must input the necessary user authentication credentials at the printer or multi-function peripheral.
