A major turn off

The Energy Saving Trust estimates that the average UK household has up to 12 gadgets left on standby or charging at any one time, creating more than four million tonnes of carbon emissions (source: DEFRA) and increasing household electricity bills by as much as 10%. In standby mode some devices consume 70% as much energy as they do when fully switched on. Among the worst performers are dishwashers (70%), tumble dryers (38%) and washing machines (20%).
The problem is just as bad in offices where PCs, printers, copiers, coffee machines etc. are often left in standby. The Bye Bye Standby plug (available in domestic and office versions) can save up to £32 per employee per year by cutting power to up to 12 devices left in standby at the touch of a button.
