Toshiba introduce 2 new MFP’s

Published January 16, 2008 at 11:24 pm · Filed under Fax / MFP

Toshiba has introduced two entry-level flatbed MFPs offering mono copy & print, colour scan and fax (e-STUDIO200s) capabilities. Toshiba says that the e-STUDIO180s (18 pages per minute) and the Toshiba the e-STUDIO200s (20ppm) are targeted at small and medium businesses and home workers, though it is hard to imagine a home worker or micro business selecting one of these machines: they are expensive (£660 and £999); can only print in black and white (though they do scan in colour); and have limited functionality (e.g. no ADF on the e-STUDIO 180s).

A small business with a variety of tasks to perform would be much better off buying a colour laser MFP with an ADF and automatic duplex printing - for even less money. But this is not to say that these machines don’t have appeal. Toshiba product manager Jamie Mackenzie told Business Info that they had two main markets: i) businesses that were replacing standalone printers with MFPs but wanted to keep a number of smaller devices as back-up; and ii) corporates that wanted to standardise on Toshiba equipment for the office and home workers. He also stressed that these were not designed to be sold through mass distribution and so couldn’t compete on price with machines that are marketed in that way.
