Ricoh’s @Remote simplifies device management
Like Konica Minolta (see above), Ricoh has introduced a new remote management solution for its printers and MFDs. The web-based @Remote service provides automatic meter readings and fault notifications, irrespective of the device manufacturer, as well as auto toner replenishment and detailed reporting on the allocation of devices across an office.
The service is based on a small piece of hardware at the customer site that collects data on up to 500 networked multifunctional devices (MFDs), printers and copiers and streams usage information to the @Remote server, located at Ricoh’s head office. This generates detailed reports on meter readings, device allocation and individual print jobs that can be viewed by the IT manager via a web browser. @Remote also monitors toner levels and automatically generates orders for new consumables.
@Remote has undergone pilot testing by selected customers since September 2006 and is accredited with the ISO17799 security standard. Commenting on the service, triallist Alan Richards, network manager at Long Eaton School, said: “By automating tasks, we can reduce device downtime by having early warnings for any low toner or faults…The automatic ordering tool also improves our stock control. This ensures accurate invoicing from our suppliers because we no longer have to estimate consumable requirements in advance: instead we only order what is necessary.”
